FRAC-HIT WELLS

Jet Pumps Return “Frac-Hit” Wells to Profitability

A “Frac-Hit” well is a producing well that had an invasion of frac fluids from an offset well that is being hydraulically fractured. This event is also known as “frac-bashing.” During a frac-hit, a well being frac’ed communicates with one or more nearby wells, which generally affects production of the adjacent well. Frac-Hit wells can be temporarily or permanently affected.

Most often, the Frac Hit Well has an increase in water production, and resultant decreases in oil and gas production, until the frac water is removed.

JJ Tech’s Frac-Evac System can be rapidly deployed, installed on location, and begin removal of unwanted fluids in a matter of days. These systems are particularly effective in wells where traditional mechanical pumps might struggle due to changes in pressure and flow dynamics caused by frac hits.

Jet pumps are also effective in handling gas along with liquids, making them suitable for wells where gas-to-liquid ratios can be high due to frac hits. They can manage gas interference without significant loss in performance.

The Challenge

Eagle-Ford shale is one of the hottest plays in the world right now. Massive hydraulic fracs, re-fracs, and frac-hits of horizontally drilled wells can be challenging for most traditional forms of artificial lift. Most of these wells are fracked with hundreds of thousands of barrels of water, and rapid recovery of this frac fluid is crucial.

JJ Tech Jet Pump Solution

Jet Pumping offers the operator a reliable form of lift during initial unloading of a recently frac’ed well, even when conditions are unknown.

  • High production rates allow for rapid fluid recovery
  • Controlled production rates are also achievable
  • Superior Jet Pump metallurgy that can withstand highly corrosive liquids and gasses
  • Sand/Solids production is good with Jet Pumps (No moving parts)
  • Jet Pumps can produce high temperatures (280+ F)
  • Concentric String configuration for high GLR wells

Outperforms Other Solutions

Gas Lift

  • Lack of infrastructure to move gas around field
  • H2S Present, which can damage engines needed for compression

ESP

  • Frac and Formation sand quickly damages DH Pumps
  • High GLR/GOR decreases ESP Efficiency
  • Highly corrosive produced water/oil decreases run-times
  • High Temperatures can overheat DH Motors

Rod Lift

  • Lifting capacity(volume) extends fluid recovery time (by months)
  • Sand/Solids issues for DH Pump
  • Corrosives damage pump/rods/tubing
  • High GLR’s reduce lifting efficiency
  • Typical Rod/Tubing wear (Reciprocating)

Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP)

  • Depth limitations with PCP
  • High temperature damages pump stator
  • Production volume limitations
  • Rod/Tubing wear (Rotating
